GMC Longhorn Build #'s
Anyone know how many GMC Longhorns were built in 1972 and how can I tell where mine falls in the build sequence? I realize the Longhorn is the Chevy version. Any help appreciated!

Sierra Grande I believe was the GMC version.
I don't have any numbers for you though... Gary

Re: GMC Longhorn Build #'s
All those records are long gone. There are guesses that GMC production was 25% of Chevy, but those are speculation and not reliable.

Re: GMC Longhorn Build #'s
OK thanks - just trying to get a feel. I know there were maybe 22000 Chevy longhorns from 1967-72 according to this sites info. so I guess the GMC version is pretty rare

Re: GMC Longhorn Build #'s
25% seems kinda low from my perspective, which isn't saying much tho
![]() I've seen several GMCs in the wild and on here, not much less than Chevys.. I would guess the ratio closer to the Chevy numbers.. my logic, for whatever that's worth either ![]() Chevy 1/2t seems to dilute the overall total number of trucks considerably.. just my swag ![]()

Re: GMC Longhorn Build #'s
Sierra Grande is just GMC's trim equivalent of Chev's Cheyenne Super, even same RPO code (YE9) - could be ordered on any C/K10-20-30. Has nothing to do with frame length.
Chev called 133" wb fleetside truck a longhorn (and put the emblem on the rear of the bedsides), GMC just had 133" wb trucks without the name or emblem. |

Re: GMC Longhorn Build #'s
thanks for the correction jocko! seems like I've seen the 133" WB GMCs referred to as Sierra Grande synonymously.. my bad for repeating it..
besides jocko's info posted around the board, this article is about all I've found on the subject.. and after reviewing it again, doesn't shed much light on the GMC production.. The Chevrolet Longhorn Truck Page so jocko, what's your perspective on the op's question about production numbers? mine is a well optioned ochre '71 Chevy C20 I bought for my mom to use on the farm.. running great btw, and getting used ![]() thanks!

As for production numbers, I honestly don't know - I don't know if it's documented anywhere, except maybe for the Canadian-sold ones. I "think" there were more Chev Longhorns than GMC 133 wb fleetside trucks, but I can't prove it. I see more Chevs than GMCs period, so kinda hard to say. I'm a big fat zero when it comes to production numbers! |

Re: GMC Longhorn Build #'s
I saw an add recently here for a 72 Canadian gmc longhorn.
The owner had put up a picture of his vintage vehicle services info in the ad. It stated that there were quite a few built of that model number, over 600, which would be just Canadian produced trucks. (3/4 ton, 8.5’ box, 2wd). CE26034. |
