How much clearance is needed between bump stop and rear axle.

Installed 4" drop leaf springs on 69 C10. After shaving rubber bump stops I have about 1 3/4 inch clearance between bump stops and frame. Is that enough or should I C Notch?

Guess people going to tell ya that it depends on what roads your driving on and if your putting weight in the bed. Folks are running 5 inch drop and more with no c notch but these trucks all sit a little different from one another particularly the long beds sit a bit lower cause of the extra weight I think. Try it and see that’s my vote

Re: How much clearance is needed between bump stop and rear axle.

Trim your bump stop in half. That will get you some more clearance. I flipped the axle on m y 69 short step and it netted just over 7” drop. I removed factory bumpstops and installed the 3/8” puck urethane pads tha came with the DJM flip. I have about the same clearance as you from axle housing to puck. With your OEM stops trimmed, you should seldomly connect.

I know only 1", such as 6" rear coils, 'can' bottom out. I think a couple inches should be good. Doing what Mike suggested will get you there.
