Bed Grounding - light issue

No lights are working in the bed. They worked two weeks ago, but not today. The power is getting to the plug. Has to be a grounding issue. How does the bed get grounded? Is frame contact the only source of grounding?

Re: Bed Grounding - light issue

There is a ground strap from bed to frame and frame to battery you can check resistance with a multimeter. Or check voltage on lighting wires but try put your ground probe on the bed. If nothing try ground probe on frame and lastly use a length of wire to put your ground probe to the battery ground. This will tell you where the break in the ground path is back to the battery. Hope you can follow my descriptio, good luck

Re: Bed Grounding - light issue

I just went through this about a week ago. I removed the light housing, then you will see two clips that the screws go into, remove the clips, clean the metal on the bed where the clips go, if the clips are rusty clean or replace. If the housing is dirty or rusty clean that also. Reassemble and you should have better ground situation which will allow the light to work properly. This is what I did and it worked for me. My housing, bulbs, and wiring harness was brand new, but when I painted truck the clips were painted, once I cleaned the metal of paint it grounded. Good luck!

Re: Bed Grounding - light issue

I added a battery cable from the engine block to the frame. Then added a number 6 green stranded wire with wire lugs, at the rear of the frame to rear of bed under the truck. You can get all that at Lowes.

Re: Bed Grounding - light issue

Picked up a grounding cable at parts store. Grounded frame to bed. Lights work...problem solved.
