vintage air sure fit contol

Greetings. I'm mainly asking about the 60-63 controls but the 64-66 are probably the same. How are they backlit? Does the actual letters light up or does it just glow through the slots? I'd like to paint it to better blend in, I can print the letters back, but noticing the blue dot, I think there may be black magic involved.

What do the instructions say about wiring for lights hook the battery up and see what happens

Edit:
Mr. Nsb29 I am sorry for my initial response, I'm not sure where that came from other than I missread something or read some added sass that my own attitude projected. Eitherway I am sorry, and I appreciate your input!

It's a circuit board sandwiched in there that has an interconnect that feeds off the unit, which In turn has a large harness that has to go through a setup when initially installed and I'm just not to that point yet. I am pretty close to the point I could spray some paint on it though.

Preciate it.

Here is the pinout for the lights.
https://www.vintageair.com/instructions_pdf/473262.pdf

(The panels include Vintage Air's exclusive soft-white LED illumination for easy identification.)
I don't think they shine through the slots.

I appreciate the effort! I read somewhere that the blue dot lights up to show the compressor is engaged...unless I dreamed it because I can't find that in any of my literature. I'm assuming there must be a hole in the plastic there because according to the rep from vintage air, the area on the panel that is slightly a different texture is a sticker of sorts and that the light does shine through the slots. That will make doing things the hard way slightly easier lol.

Unless I could see one let up I would have to hotwire it before I painted it and I am sure the blue dot lights up they would not have put it there for gigglesYou could play it safe and mask off the area where the sticker is and painting rest of it

I read the blue dot lights up also. I think I read that there were 2 overlays for vertical or horizontal mounting.(overlay is removable)

I saw a truck done that way somewhere. I thought i had a picture of it. It may have been in the last issue of custom classic trucks.

I’m pretty sure I saw that as well, although armed with my new knowledge it was probably removed and reapplied/replaced instead of masked off. I’d rather not go that direction, as my dash will be white and the black panel would stand out to me if either black or partially black. My wife can remake the letters in contrasting colors. I plan to try peeling it off tomorrow.

I wonder if the sticker can be ordered separately?

Before any of the other major players suggest google or supply links of no help, I'll save some time. I did google it and did a search here and couldn't find the answer I was looking for. And for that poster dying to tell me to contact Vintage air, that is my next step. Let's up that post count elsewhere, gentlemen.

Preciate it.

Yippee I upped my post count by one

Light does show behind the letters.

You sound like a real fun person to hang around with.

I appreciate that. I’m even more curious what this looks like behind the sticker.

I admit I came back a little hot headed, I do owe the poster an apology for my reply. Try not to judge my whole personality off this moment of weakness, and I won’t judge yours off threatening to end your build thread over lack of attention.

Re: vintage air sure fit contol

So you cant just print the letters and stick them over the holes huh? I guess thats why the one I saw painted left that black. What about leaving the sticker off and filling the holes and painting it all one color? Maybe intalling a small blue led for a/c ? Or make a sticker same color as dash color

If you filled the holes you would be back to square one on the lighting lol. I think I would have been happier with the kits that convert the factory heater controls. I think I got it worked out. I plan on buying a new placard and putting white vinyl over it with ovals cut out around the letters. (Dash white, letters white, need a buffer) or mask off the ovals and paint the sticker. The original sticker came apart during removal, I had the warden whip this up using part of it as proof of concept. I’m not in love with the pill shaped black area, but when you been married long enough it becomes obvious when to say when
