measurment needed...
Im working on setting a motor (sbc) in a 66 with a custom crossmember etc...I did not have this truck when stock or when it had stock motor mounts in it. Just to get me a ballpark idea...Can someone that has a sbc in their truck take a measurment for me from the front of the crank pully to the front of the radiator or the core support, or anything that would get me an idea of where the motor sat with stock motor mounts. I plan on setting the cab on it this weekend to check as well, but this measurment would get me a ballpark idea..

Re: measurment needed...
From the face of the bottom of harmonic balancer (the 1 5/16" thick unit) to the trailing edge of the forward cross member I get a measurement of 5 1/4"

Re: measurment needed...
I'll see what I can do with that...is that the crossmember your radiator is on? If so, that's gone on mine and a custom porter built one is there..thanks..

Re: measurment needed...
Would the measurement be different on a short/long water pump?

No way to measure to the core support as there is a radiator in the way. I think the folks at Porter built should be able to help. Is there a reason you are not using the factory motor mounts? |

Re: measurment needed...
...I have the motor sitting in there now, but i feel that its just too far towards the rear...but i cant really move it forward much due to the power rack and steering linkage/motor mount clearances...I think im just going to have to set the cab on it to see where i am at...

Re: measurment needed...
That is the only way to do it even if you know where it's supposed to go. Build it out in the rough, or post paint and powdercoat you'll be grinding and chipping paint for sure.

Re: measurment needed...
you'll be a master at tossing the cab on there by the time you are ready to bolt it down permanently.
I bet you we have set the cab on our build 30 separate times in the last year and a half. |

Re: measurment needed...
looking at your pictures. The front cross member you have looks to be bolted in with just a couple fasteners, yank it and drop the stocker back in and you can use the measurement I got for ya. then you can re-mount that aftermarket piece of tubing you paid so much for.
