Gas Tanks That Fit OEM (In Cab)?
Hello,
I have a '70 C10 and the gas tank has decided to start rusting...the clear fuel filter turned a nice shade or red and scoped the tank and saw rust, great. So, I'm just gonna replace it instead of trying to get it renewed...the truck is far from original so that doesn't concern me. Did some searches on here about gas tanks for in cab tanks but curious about fitment. I noticed the manes site has a disclaimer saying that they have had complaints that they don't line up properly like OEM. So, I'm just gonna replace it. In a few years we're putting a tank on the frame rails, but for now I need an in cab tank. Questions: 1. The truck was EEC, but I removed most of the EEC stuff. Do I still need an EEC tank? 2. Do EEC tanks/non-EEC tanks fit differently or is it just that EEC vent off the tank that is different? 3. What is the Gas Tank Cardboard Cover for and where does it go? Do I need it? I've replaced the fuel sending unit before and I don't remember seeing a cardboard cover in front of the tank. 4. Anything else I should replace when I replace the in cab tank? Wiring harness? Pads? 5. What vendor has direct fit ready to bolt in tanks that fit right? 6. Before I put the tank in, should I have anything done to it? Treated with something? I saw someone mention something about having a radiator shop boil it and coat it but didn't say what to coat it with. 7. Will I have to replace the filler neck tube as well or can I keep mine? The filler neck is part of the tank and you shouldn't have to replace it. I believe the cardboard just goes over the tank, but on mine there's a piece of carpet covering the tank. I don't think that's how they came though. I was able to get a good used tank off of another member here on this site, so sorry I can't help you with what vendor to go with.

I just received my new tank yesterday first one was damaged in shipment. I will take some pics later today. It was made by Key it was 140.00 shipped. Here is a pic of first one damaged at neck.

I have an original in cab tank in perfect condition if your still looking for one. It's out of a 1970 C10. I would be willing to sell cheap, PM me if your interested.

The tank came from J.C. Whitney free shipping. I mocked the tank in this morning fits pretty much like oem. The bolt holes all align up and the fill neck is square in the hole on the cab. This is in a 70 Gmc non eec and the tank I ordered is eec. So they will interchange. I have a new sending unit and tank pads. The tank came with a new o ring and lock ring for the sender. I'm not coating the inside with anything. The last one was 50 years old this one will outlast me. I would have reused mine but the neck was boogered up from p.o.

I had good luck with specter tanks. Fit perfect. Ordered from summit and was around three days to my door.
I had an NOS fuel neck grommet and sending unit. Both fit the tank without issues. That's my experience. Posted via Mobile Device |

I had an EEC tank/setup but I'm putting in a non-EEC tank. I've gutted some of the emissions stuff but I am curious what some of the existing lines are for and if I can lose them or if there is anything else I need to do when I convert to non-EEC tank.
In the pics, you can see how much rust/corrosion/gunk was in the tank. As for the EEC lines, there is the line that goes up behind back of the pillar on the driver side off the neck and then the two that go up the pillar behind the passenger side. Where do those metal lines actually go? Can I remove them easily? Or should I just leave them and cap them off? What about the line that runs from the passenger side along the tank, down through the floor? Is that a return line or is it coming off the charcoal canister?
