71 c10 stepside
Guys, I’m new to the C10 world.
I recently purchased 71 c10 stepwise. It has a 3 on the floor manual transmission. I want to change it to a 5 or 6 speed as a project for me and my son. From the little research I’ve gathered, it looks like I’ll need drive shaft, cross member as well. Any advice on what package to go with or transmission? Thank you Posted via Mobile Device |

In full, it’s a 350 small block V8, full new electrical bumper to bumper. The transmission is not much fun or convenient with just 3 gears which is why we are looking for a 5 or 6 speed. Thank you all for your help! Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: 71 c10 stepside
There are companies that make ready made kits to put a 5 speed Tremec TKO in our trucks, but the kit is expensive. There are cheaper options but these kits include everything. I would love to put one behind the small block in my Corvette and in my truck as well. I know the kit for my Corvette is about $4000.

Re: 71 c10 stepside
Hi welcome to the board.
I have a 68c10 stepside. I went from a 4spd Muncie to a 5spd NV-4500 The Nv-4500 came in both Chevy and Dodge gas and diesel pickups starting in the early 90's to the mid 2000's (you dont want one out of a Diesel, the input shaft of the trans is to big). The trans you want is the early year Dodge gas Rwd. The early trans has the manual speedo output where the later models are electric. You will have a hard time finding a good used trans that's out of a rwd truck, i purchased a rebuilt one from a place in Arizona. See the list below to get you started. If you are serious about perusing this post here or message me and I get you through it. I have had the trans in my truck now for almost a year and its great. I tow with it and its a great upgrade. |
