I have a 72 Chevy truck a 4x2 shortbox. I have a different frame year because it has front drums and 6 lug wheels. How can I tell what year the frame is? The last owner did not know.

Look on the driver side frame just ahead of the engine tower, you will find a number a letter and some more numbers stamped in the frame. The first number is year made the letter designates plant of manufacture and the rest are production no's

My '72 GMC frame has the date stamped on the passenger side frame rail about a foot ahead of the rear cab mount. Maybe the '72 cab has been installed on an earlier chassis???

Most I have seen were stamped right beside the steering gear box, on the very top viewable looking down from under the hood. (Does this make sence?)
Who has my frame number pic? I don't have it since I am not on my computer and they are no longer networked together.

That is where the frame VIN should be...I think the 67's did not have any numbers.

is it possible that they switched out the brakes? someone wanted the 5 lug so they switched out the front and rears...???

Didn't all 4X4's have six lugs even in 71 and 72 even when discs were factory installed? I have a 67 frame and it is stamped. It's just farther back, about 4 inches in front of the left front cab mount. This could have varied between assembly plants.

But his is 4X2. and it has drums up front.
