'62 cab n box on a '96 k2500 frame

Ain't worth the trouble Imho..a crossmember swap nets you disk brakes and power steering for way less work and trouble.if 4 wheel is what you desire solid axles and tcase is doable and your stock frame is beefy 60s Detroit iron

I don't necessarily need to keep the K, but want the 2500 (20 in this case, right? ). Just add appropriate springs to the rear? I want her for a big 5th wheel camper puller... actually I want to get REAL crazy and make a '62 crew cab!

Yeah rear end and spring swap gets you towable.what are you doing as far as power train? Turbo 400 is strong enough but it really depends on the rest of the setup and what direction you want to go with the engine.The rear gear in the 2500 donor should be close if not perfect for your towing goal.Rear air springs might help out holding the load aswell

I'd use all the parts off the '96 I can - 5.7L engine, and a 4L60E tranny (at a guess, I have to verify)(I only know enuff to be dangerous at this point, and even less about 4x4s!), and it's rear axle and springs, etc. I have to check it's weight capacity and then shop for my 5th wheel trlr with that in mind.

Probably some fab work required to get the cab to frame set. Measure 62 cab mount distance across, see if it's close. 5.7 4L60 is a nice set up IMO worth the time, if the frame drive train are in good condition...62 X frame is pretty strong but not as easy to modify when adding new drive components.
