bad power steering affect alternator charging? sbc

I just replace the alternator with a good one
and now sometimes when I start it I hear squealing
then whenever I turn on certain things like lights or something it'll be alright it'll be fine and charging properly and then all of a sudden dip down and hear some mild squealing quite a bit
is it possible that the power steering pump is messing with the alternator even though they're not directly connected by belt

If your power steering pump is not connected to the same belt then I cant think of any reason that it would do anything to the alternator.

Sounds to me that your alternator belt is loose and needs to be tightened.

X2 if it's not tight it does just what your described. Its not turning it fast enough cause it's slipping on the pulley.Back off the alt bolts slip a flat bar under the alt to keep tension and retighten.Look for right about an 1/8 inch of movement in the belt fully tightened
