68 door panels? help.

I am changing my 72 interior door panels to the simpler looking 67-68 style. My 72 panels were held in place with those plastic white Christmas tree looking things. Can someone tell me how the 68 panels were held in place? It does not look as if there is anyplace to attach those tree things. Maybe they were just screwed to the door??? Any help would be appreciated.

your going to have to modify the 72 doors to fit the older panels the 72 doors themselves are different from all the others thats why they have the different door panels

Wow- I didnt know that was a difference in the 72 doors?
I have some blue door panels that were in my 70 blazer. They look like they were going for a 68 look with them. Here is a pic.
Chevydude- do you need blue door panels? I am putting different ones in my blazer so I would sell you these if you wanted. They are in good shape. no rips. and they attach with screws just for FYI.

4 screws across the bottom and the retainer across the top hold this style on. Don't forget the cranks are a tad longer too to accomodate the 72' style panel.

Maybe Blazers are different, but my truck 68 door panels have the seams running vertically as opposed to horizontal.

I've got the shorter door controls and shorter window regulator, I believe I've just got to screw the new 68' panels in place.

Already got new Black 68' panels, so don't need the blue ones...but thanks for the offer.

I've only seen the steel 67-71 door panels, those blue ones must be a custom vinyl job.

My question is where can you get new screws like these. Mine are pretty cruddy looking.

Don't forget the 72's had a longer stud on the window crank. If you use it it'll cause your window crank to stick out more from the flat 68-71 style door panel.

I just found where you can get the door panel screws while looking through a copy of Hemmings Motor News.

Chevy Duty has the 67-71 screw kits for $4.95, and the 72 screw set for $2.95.

If you still need paint on the truck, it may be easier to just swap someone who has earlier style doors for your 72 doors.
If your 72 doors are in great shape, they are worth a lot more than the earlier type doors (because 72 was the only year they made that style). And you could trade for a perfect set of 68 doors. Maybe even the same color you have if your patient.
Just an idea.

I did get the panels and door panel fastening kit form Chevy Duty. They were the pre-assembled panels and look very nice. I will just use my 72' doors and make 8 small holes were the new fastener screws will go. Thanks for all your help and input!
