1969 Chevy Instrument setup

Greetings all. My son's stock 69 Chevy gauge setup seems to be fubar. We have rewired the whole truck, and power is getting to all the wires in the plug that goes into the circuit board, but nothing on the gauges. I went and installed a set of 3 Autometer Gauges, Temp, Oil pres and Volts. The universal fit ones you can buy on Amazon for about 50 bucks. Then started thinking, will these fit into the stock holes in the dash? So, my question is actually a few. 1. Will these universal gauges fit into the stock locations? 2. Does Autometer sell a gas gauge that will fit in the stock location and read the stock sending unit until we can move the tank to the back and 3. What Autometer gauge would fit into the stock location for the speedometer and tach? Also, if I lose the stock circuit board do I have to deal with the turn signals and the dash lights? I am at work, so I don't have access to anything at the moment to check, so I thought since I am writing might as well ask.

Thanks to all for the help. I screwed up and didn't even think about this or I would have ordered the ones that fit, but I am hoping these will work.

The FAQ's are kind of spread out between the different forums. If you scroll down to the bottom of any page you will see the "Forum Jump" box. If you click on the little down arrow on the right side of the box it will list all of the different forums on this board. Just scroll down and choose the one you want to go to and click on it and it will take you there.

If you scroll down quite a ways you will see the "FAQ Truck Tech", just choose the year series under that and click on it to go to that FAQ.

With everyone being so busy nowdays it is always good if you can find a common interest with the kids. Good on you.....

Another way to find something quick is to use the Google search box at the top of the page. Type a few words into the box (keep it simple), click on the circle in front of the words "67-72chevytrucks.com" and click on the Google button. The hits will include all years so you will have to make sure the thread you choose to read is for your year truck.

Awesome. Thank you kind sir. I was able to use the drop down and find what I was looking for. Seems the gauges we bought are not quite what everyone has used in the past, but I might try and fool with them. Why not, huh? LOL. Or, the kid can save his pennies and get the ones that everyone else uses. The only thing I have not yet been able to find is how people are able to get the signals working without the circuit board, but that is another day. D

Thank you sir. I will keep your name handy. Son is going to just use the three gauge setup and save his pennies for a setup that uses the stock bezel and replace the gauges one by one. I think he likes some of the ones I have shown him here. Thanks to all for the help. RR

Another handy tip is to use the "subscribe" feature to save links to threads that you find interesting or full of info you might want to save for later. The subscribe button is under the "thread tools" button at the top of every thread. You can then go back and use the subscribe page (use the link in the menu at the top of the page) to see everything you've saved. Just an update to the original thread. Having been out of commission for a bit, and having fought with the brakes and ending up doing a ton more than I thought, I have now gone back to the wiring. Seems everything is working, charging system, lights signals. Everything but the dash stuff. LOL. So, after running a voltmeter to all the wires on the dash plug, I found that the hot wire that goes into the plus did not have any power. OK, well it is all new, so I must have done something wrong, right? LOL. No, seems not. After disconnecting and following the Hot wire all the way back to the fuse block and finding nothing out of the ordinary I checked the 5 amp fuse in the brand new fuse box and found it was blown. Well now, how do you like that. So, I changed the fuse, and low and behold, the dash now has power. So now, I can let me son decide if he wants to go back to the old gauges, or use the new Autometer 3 gauge cluster we put in to get us by. Either way, I should have listened to my daddy. KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) LOL.
