292 Hard Fuel Line - pump to carb
I need to replace the hard fuel line between the fuel pump and carb on my '66 K20 with 292. Does a prebent hard line exist for this truck? I have found several 250 hard lines but none for the 292, unless I look into the 67-72 era trucks. Are there any external differences in the 67-72 292 compared to a '66 292?
Thanks! Brett

Re: 292 Hard Fuel Line - pump to carb
ive been looking for one for my 65 for some time.
i bought a 67-72/292 pump to carb line. it will not fit the style pump i currently have, the fuel line goes into a right angle fitting on the top of the pump. i bought another fuel pump that the line goes straight down into the pump, it looked to me like that the 67-72 line would work. i would post pics but the stuff is in storage until i get to replacing the pump to carb line, after my engine rebuild. i also bought some copp-nickel fuel line , with fittings and if there is a problem with the 67-72 line i will bend my own.

Re: 292 Hard Fuel Line - pump to carb
Bending your own is certainly a good option. Great skill to have in your hip pocket, and if you screw a couple up learning, it’s probably still less expensive than a prebent. And, when you’re done, you’ll have the tools ready for next time with no buy in cost. Just a thought. Nothing wrong with prebent, I buy them on occasion also - but sounds like the exact repro line you need may not be out there. Might call inline tube - that is the company I’ve had the best luck with on hard to find lines - and I believe they can even make you one if you send in yours. Might “offer” to let them use it as a prototype (because there clearly is at least a demand signal for at least 2 of them!) in exchange for a free line!

Are the '67 up using the same carb? And are you looking at pre bent lines made by inline tube? If so, I'd just make my own. My experience with them has been underwhelming to say the least. I bought one of their "prebent" for a a 230 a few years ago and had to bend it almost as much as if I had started with a straight piece.

Re: 292 Hard Fuel Line - pump to carb
Just went through the same thing with my 292. Wound up bending my own. As said by others, buy a good tool and waste some tube practicing, a good skill to learn. I could not bend the last 90 going into the carb and make it clear the air cleaner, so used a 90 fitting and a short piece of hose, worked great.
Good luck, Tom

I am not opposed to bending line. My biggest fear is bending and weakening cheap tube over the exhaust manifold. Plus I was trying to be lazy!

Lots of pictures of stock 292 fuel line routing on this site (it changes due to year and fuel pump type). I just picked one I liked and matched it best I could. Take your time and you can make something as good or better than anything you can buy. BTW I once tried to use stainless tube on another project years ago. Impossible to bend by hand, I finally gave up.
