Sun Visor gasket?
I have both a fiberglass visor that came with my truck when I bought it and a new metal visor from Classic Parts that I bought years ago. I plan to install one of theses soon but I don’t have a gasket for it. I see Classic now sells one but I saw a 57 Suburban on tv today that looks like they used the same welting material sold for rear fenders. Has anyone else used this as a gasket before? Do I need to worry about water with either gasket? Would silicone work to “seal” gasket to the roof? Or should I use something else.
Thanks |

Re: Sun Visor gasket?
I was just asking because my truck didn’t have anything but the visor screwed to it when I bought it. It’s time to put it back on and I just wanted to know if anyone was using something to cushion the mating surfaces. It makes sense to do so and when I saw that suburban with the fender welting, I thought it was a good idea.

Re: Sun Visor gasket?
That's new to me. You would think they might mention a gasket when you purchase the visor. Mine doesn't have that gasket and for sure isn't coming off to put one on.

Re: Sun Visor gasket?
Strip caulk will help keep moisture out and prevent metal to metal contact without resorting to unsightly welting

Re: Sun Visor gasket?
Can I be the one that says out loud, how about NO visor?
The '56 F100's and the TF trucks came with a visor built into the cab roof from the factory. To me, the visors look more appropriate on the Art Deco trucks ('38-47.1) and on the AD trucks - if you like them. I prefer the Task Force trucks without them. Now, back to your regularly scheduled thread, lol.

Re: Sun Visor gasket?
There’s trucks out there that look great with them when it’s a factory look you’re after I think. Hot rodded trucks of course go for the light/trim look and look better without. I’m getting old and my truck had a visor when I bought it, it’s going back on for that period look. You youngsters can do without them and while you’re at it strip it of all trim/emblems, shave your door handles, and drop a LS in it. Lol
