What am i doing wrong--Steering Column
I took my column apart and painted a few pieces for the install. I replaced the lower bearing...upper bearing was fine. I put it back together, but the blinker stalk will not move...(I can't find my pictures of when I took it apart). Attached is a picture of how I have it together as I remembered it coming apart...I also show a picture of the cancelling cam out of the column.
Either I am doing something wrong, missing a part or amd just brain dead. I have the cancelling cam inserted into the hole on the turn signal switch...what am I missing? Thanks for any help you can provide...and if I am being dumb...show me the way! |

I don't know if it makes a difference but I think the cancelling arm needs to be screwed on from the back side before you install it in the column. Is it clearing all 3 of the screw heads?

Re: What am i doing wrong--Steering Column
I was wondering if the cancelling cam is screwed in from behind at the pivot point since the bearing/wire harness section is already screwed into the column in the one photo

Re: What am i doing wrong--Steering Column
I would try taking it apart and screwing in the cancelling cam and see it it will move out of the column. Earlier I meant to say cancelling cam not arm. It could also be that it is hitting against the screw head that is closest to the pivot point on the cancelling cam.

Re: What am i doing wrong--Steering Column
Crazy, but I just attached the stalk again and it moves, but it very hard to move in one direction and moves fairly easy in the other direction.
Good idea of checking to see if it is hitting one of the screws. I will check that and maybe take out the switch and make sure everything is where it is supposed to be. Thanks for the good suggestion! |

Re: What am i doing wrong--Steering Column
Update...nothing was hitting...I took the screws out and double checked and reseated everything...the stalk and everything is working as it should. I hope to get the column back in the truck this weekend. Thanks for the ideas...
