A little help from you "late model" guys please

So this is just a pure guess on my part, but can someone here tell me if this is a cruise set up for one of the years represented on this side of the board please? And if it is can you tell me if its OEM or aftermarket ... thanks!

Looks to be from an 85? or newer.
I'd have to go look at mine to be sure.

Looks exactly like the cruise system I recently pulled off my 85. Best thing I ever did removing all that outdated, unreliable crap! Replaced it with a simple Dakota Digital setup.

Actually, I dont think it's from an 85. Eventhough it's got resume and such, the stalk where it mounts inside column does not push/snap in (like an 85) it looks like it has a screw hole for mounting.

I would say late model set up with an early mounting stalk. (Before moving dimmer to column)

I took a longer,closer look and I believe it's from an 82 model.
I went and looked at my 82 (bought it new) and all the parts appear to be the same.
It's not any newer because the newer ones have the wiper,dimmer,turn signal and cruise all in the the same control on the turn signal arm.Or, some combination of those devises.

my 81 has that same style cruise control. If I remember correctly they only used it for a few years 79-83?

If this system was installed on your 1985 truck it's not stock.

That's a Cruisemaster transducer system with resume. GM used them from 1968 through 1980 or 1981 or thereabouts. The resume function was the last few years and AFAIK was not used on the light trucks. It could be retrofitted if one has a complete setup like you have there.

The dead giveaway is that Cruisemaster used a mechanical transducer inserted in the speedometer cable. It's in the lower left corner of the picture. The pre-1984 screw hole stalk is another dead giveaway. Last and not least is the vacuum only pod.

You can still get parts for the Cruisemaster systems.

1982-1990 Cruise III not so much...

The older Cruisemaster system was far more reliable than the short lived mid 80's Cruise III systems that used an embryonic electronic controller and electrically connected vacuum pod. Cruisemaster was easier to retrofit as well.
If you dig into the dash the Cruise III systems have a green or yellow VSSB with an optical pickup in the speedometer.


1982ish-1990ish Cruise III vacuum pod.

This is a 25111880 Cruise III controller.

and a similar 25074714 Cruise III controller board...

The Cruise III controller and VSSB used PakCon connectors to slip over the end of the printed circuit board like an Atari 2600 or Nintendo game console cartridge. Even without 40 year old electrolytic caps the VSSB and Controller boards are open to the atmosphere so they collect conductive dirt and grime and can get more than a little schzophrenic.
Cruise III also has several vacuum lines with a vacuum accumulator ball, check valve, vacuum release valve on the brake pedal and other assorted vacuum goodies just to add more reliability to the system

Mike I finally got the parts all boxed up and ready to go. Dropping them off at the post office today along with some parts for a couple other fellas.

Two things ...

If it turns out these are incredibly valuable please remember me in your will.

And just a warning to a fella that goes by 100%Chevy ... Im dropping them off in my Ford ... ahhhhhhhhhh!

I'm not sure how valuable the parts are ,but they have value to me! I will definately use them!My 82,C-30 needs a speedo cable and housing.These parts will fit in the same place,so you've already saved me that cost .And,the servo is always going out on this type cruise unit,so if it's still good,I can use it too.
Very kind of you to also cover the shipping,although I'd be more than happy to pay it.
Or,if I have anything parts wise you may need,just ask.I have more than 25 GM trucks here,10 are square bodies.
As far as my will goes,you're in! (somebody has to pay the bills i leave behind!LOL!)

This type of Crusie Control, more commonly called "Transducer" was on Square Bodies from 1983 under!!! 1984 had a completely new system.
