‘70 C10 Ignition

Call me ignorant, but I’m curious. I currently have 24-26 degrees of advance on my crankshaft, and the vacuum port on the distributor is hitting the manifold. I know the orientation of the distributor needs to be toward #1, but what if I were to remove the distributor and replace it without moving the crank until its seated, in order to get more clearance for the vacuum? Not moving the motor seems to me like everything would stay the same, just wanted to get differing opinions.

Don't pull the distributor.. Instead, "walk" the wires around one position in a counterclockwise direction. Then reset the timing by moving the distributor clockwise.. You'll find the vacuum can now has plenty of clearance for timing adjustments..

so physically remove each wire from their specific location and move them one slot over? Meaning you would move the number 1 wire to the number 2 spot, etc?

when you say reset the timing, does that mean clockwise now advances the timing? and continue moving slowly to gain additional degrees? i just want to be sure I have this properly understood. Thanks for your input!

Nothing changes direction. The firing order is still clockwise and turning the distributor counter clockwise still advances the timing "reset the timing" means: hook up your timing light and set the timing as you normally would.
