4wd Power steering question

I am putting power steering on my 67 K10. I already have the Capt Fab bracket, a pump and pulleys. Is the only difference between the 69-76 and 77-79 steering boxes the rag joint shaft diameter? The 69-76 boxes are back ordered till the end of the month. Thanks John

I know this is an old thread, but I have the same question and wondered if anyone has an answer. I am trying to add PS to my 67 K10

The only difference in the steering boxes that I know of is that around 76 they went from a flare nut fitting on the hoses to an O ring fitting. So check your high pressure fitting on your pump and get the correct steering box to match.

Some of the later boxes are a quicker ratio as well. I’ve never run into the rag joints being an issue. Maybe I just got lucky.

I think the input shaft changed in 77. I ended up going crossover steering (2WD box) but I think I just shopped Rock Auto for a flare fitting box with the faster ratio. It was an earlier 67-76 type box and it took a Lares 201 rag joint. The spline description on their site is messed up and I ordered the wrong one first, then called Lares and talked with a really nice guy who told me to ignore what they say and order a 201.
