I have an jazz plastic fuel cell and stainless braided fuel lines. I don't have any visible leaks but I constantly smell gas around the tank and it seems like my gas is disappearing vary quickly with vary little driving. Could it be possible that my fuel is evaporating or seeping out some how that is not visible?

I ran a jazz cell in the goat pictured <--

used a small can to coil the vent line couple of loops to create a trap and ran the exiting line clear of the body..

quick google looks like all sorts of ready made traps available today..

It has one of those roll over valve with the ball in it so that if it turns over the vent is closed. It has a rubber hose connected to it that runs below the tank.

the loop(s) are intended to keep fuel from leaking out in a rollover, same as the valve you have but cheaper

except that I believe the gasoline vapor is also heavier than air so it tends to keep the vapor down on the tank side of the loop as well..

multiple loops is just what was suggested to me for redundant protection..

might want to call jazz or one of the fuel cell companies tech lines regarding your situation..

sometimes racing applications addressing safety aren't always daily driver pleasing if you know what I mean..

possible still need some sort of a trap to keep vapor from crowning a loop and smell traveling out..

the rollover may only be preventing liquid leak when inverted but not addressing vapor smell..

do you recommend this for the fuel smell issue only or do you think it will also help with what seems like fuel disappearing?

just my opinion here but seems like strong smell would suggest gas evaporating and losing quantity..

so if the smell is reduced, so should the quantity lost from evaporation?

the loop supposedly works because the heavier than air vapor doesn't reach over the top..

does it still evaporate and lose fuel with a loop, I can't answer that..

that goat got about 6-8 mpg and the only other vehicle I owned with a cell was a class 7 score race truck..


I still think a call to a tech line may be best..

looks like there's a lot of options nowadays and may be an ideal solution out there for your vehicle..

I crawled under the truck today to measure what size of hose I have connected to the overflow valve so that I can buy some more line to create a loop. While doing this I noticed that the inside of the line was wet. It wasn’t dripping when I looked at it but I thought this might be a clue that I am loosing gas out of the line. Which type of loop would you all recommend?

Is it usual for my engine compartment to smell like gas even after not driving it for a week? Could this be a sign of a leak? It is carbureted with a mechanical fuel pump.
