Re: originally spring under or spring over?

What model are we talking about here.

47/55.1 3100 had the rear axle above the spring the 3/4 ton had the rear axle under the spring.

55 second series through 59 pickups all had the rear spring above the rear axle.

All I beam axle trucks came with the springs on top of the front axle.

48 Chev 3100 that will run a 292 Six.
71 GMC 2500 that is getting a Cad 500 transplant.
77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.

Re: originally spring under or spring over?

On the 51 GMC 6 lug is spring under the axle. 8 lug is spring over the axle.

GMC had both short 116 inch and long 125.5 inch wheelbase half tons where Chevy only had short wheelbase half tons. 1/2 ton springs are under the frame rails 3/4 ton springs are mounted on the sides of the frame rails.

I need to measure wheel base it does look long. 6 lug springs mounted under frame rails. axle over springs. looks short but that big bumper makes it look like a working truck. maybe someone flipped rear end. I am sure it still has truck 4 speed 1st is useless second is only for getting the truck moving.
