Bed stake pockets
1950 3100
A previous owner smoothed out the bed rails and covered the stake pockets. Personally I love the look of having the wooden rails on top of these trucks. So I want to open the pockets up. Can any of you provide me with some close up pictures, preferably with some measurements. I can make out some lines of where welds were made but not for all the pockets.

Re: Bed stake pockets
Just a thought but could you drill the center of the patch with a step bit and work your way out from there slowly?
I have a long bed that I will be shortening when the time comes, so my measurements would probably be wrong. Brendan |

Re: Bed stake pockets
On the short bed I have in the shop, the following picture
IMG_0052 by Robert Moorman, on Flickr shows 1 3/4" from the end of the bed (on both ends) and it starts at the vertical side. It fits inside the stake on the side. In the picture, the tape is laying on the angled "top" and the vertical side is to the left Hope this helps.

Re: Bed stake pockets
Thank you, looks like maybe a 2x2 hole? No edges are folded down?
I'm thinking a drill bit either in the middle and then square it up, or drill 4 small holes in the corners and play connect the dots with a saw.

Re: Bed stake pockets
2 1/4" front to back, the cut on the inside, and then 2" side to side on the front and back of the 2 1/4" cut and then fold the 3 sided piece down. Or you could cut it out entirely as I don't know what purpose it serves folded down inside.

Re: Bed stake pockets
I feel for ya buddy. Some a-hole filled my stake pockets with concrete. You can just make it out in the back passenger's side of this pic.

Re: Bed stake pockets
Concrete???
Someone got some concrete, mixed it up and poured it into each pocket and cleaned it all up??? I think I've seen Great Stuff foam before but not concrete.

Re: Bed stake pockets
Weight for traction?
Just kidding, are you going to replace them?
