truck guys are awesome!

So, this happened tonight on the way to grab some dinner. We've just put a new clutch in the truck last week, so I guess the u joint just gave out. Fortunately, I was in a neighborhood, so I just coasted to the side of the road. I was able to go back 50 yards to the intersection that I took off from, and found both caps laying in the road. As I'm under the truck, along comes a passerby who happens to own a 71 GMC, and is a mechanic. He takes a look at the caps and the u joint because I had the driveshaft out and in the bed of the truck. He said he thought we could put the caps back on, put the shaft back in and make it the 2 miles back home. Sooo, that's what we did and sure enough, it made it home, and he even followed me. That just proves there are still good people left in this world. He wouldn't let me give him a dime either, or buy him dinner or anything.

Re: truck guys are awesome!

This is weird. The caps and the ujoint were in good enough shape to put back together? The u-bolts in the pic are in place. How did it come apart? Did the ubolts not get tightened down properly? How else would it come apart like that?

You are right, truck guys are awesome! Good story.
