Do you have the old block with the dip stick on the drivers side, or a later engine with the passenger side dip stick?

you could take a punch and swell out the tip that goes in to the block, that would give it some friction. similar to what you get with a press fit. Then put a coat of sealant around it to stop any potential leak.... Or just go pick up a chrome dipstick and install it. The new one should fit tighter.....

Does your dipstick not have a flange with a hole to be able to use a head or exhaust bolt to keep it stationary?

I just ran a bead of silicone around the tube and stuck it back in the hole. It hasn't moved since...

Longhorn Man it is on the drivers side..
dtlilly The only thing that remotley helps to hold it in place is the heat shield of the mainfolds. and never works. Do you guys think that just JB weld will hold it ok?? I woudl put a crome one it but problem is my engine is not cromed out and it In my opinion kinda funky. But when I put the original 327 back in I will do that though. Thanks for the opinions. Rich

KNURL THE O-D OF THE TUBE THAT GOES INTO YOUR BLOCK WITH A CENTER PUNCH, OR TAP IT OUT OF ROUND WITH A HAMMER. THEN SMEAR A COAT OF SILICONE SEALANT ON THIS DIA., & PLACE A 5/16" BOLT IN THE OTHER END, & TAP ON THE BOLT WITH A HAMMER (TO KEEP FROM DEFORMING THE END), DRIVING THE TUBE INTO THE BLOCK. JOHN
