My 55.2 truck build in Illinois
I am starting my build thread now. Its a 55 chevy that I bought from a friend way back in 2000 or so. Drug it out of storage last fall and started in.
was looking for suspension options, (i have put 5 or 6 mustang ll front ends in streetrods) and I love Fatmans stuff but wanted different here. So i found QB Racings build in New Zealand on youtube which lead me to this forum. So i ended up ordering the C4 conversion kit from flatout-engineering and bought the suspension from a 1990 corvette, Dana 44 rearend 3:45 posi gear. So off i go.working with the chassis right now, cab and box are that fabled California ruff (no rust) pictures below. |

Re: My 55.2 truck build in Illinois
I'm posting some progress photos. One of the things I did was when I notched the frame rails for the rack and pinion box it looked weak and a probable hinge point so I added some bridging to the crossmembers to compensate.

JW I’ve got a question on your rear spring, it looks like you have a multi leaf spring in place of the corvette single fiber glass spring. Im using the fiber spring on mine from an ‘88, just wondering if yours came that way or if this is your mod. Curious, thanks

Re: My 55.2 truck build in Illinois
I was wondering about the rear spring too and then I realized that it's a picture of a different chassis (mid 30's Ford?)

Re: My 55.2 truck build in Illinois
I must apologize, when I was grabbing photos to post, I grabbed a picture of a 32 ford chassis that a friend is building in my shop. it is a 32 Ford 3 window coupe, the body is out for paint right now. but if you look at the close up side shot of my frame you will see that the flatout engineering stuff I that I used is setup to use coil over or shockwaves instead of the mono leaf the corvette used. my plan is to use shockwaves because I am not at all fond of coilovers. No I will not lay this on the ground at a car show. If you do that, someplace at 70 mph you lose air in the suspension you wont like the results. I have built bump stops into the chassis to make sure if we loose the suspension, we can still limp to safety without damaging anything.
