Power windows in 77?
I can't find any pics or info about power windows (or locks) in 77. My brochures show them for 78, but not 77. What's the deal? Were they available in 77 or not?

I found my answer on Ebay. I don't knwo why the sales brochures don't list them though. Now all I need is a set of those power window/lock switches for my inserts-

Power windows started in 1977.
Most parts stores have them in the help section, or were you looking for GM pieces?

Chris,
I want to convert my 77 to power windows.Conversion thread I wanted to see what the window controls looked like on my doorpanels. I think the OEM switches will cover the hole for the crank... |

Power Windows in 77
I have a set of power trim panels for a 78-80, and all GM did was to punch the square holes for the power switches. You can see some of the round window crank hole on the power window switch location. I don't know if these are real GM, but you might be interested in them.

dswancutt, Thanks for the link. I looked at a set of door panels with out all the trim on it, and could tell they were punched to accomodate manual or electric. I wasn't sure about the trim panels though.
I think I will buy those posted just to have a spare set in case I slip... |

Saw these being auctioned on Ebay. Components are from an 86 and should work.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33706 4 days left to end of auction. At $150 right now.

that setup on ebay is pretty nice.. also the later 80's model of regulator/motor combo is superior to what the factory used in '77.. faster, quieter, smaller motors.. but the harnesses are different and the fact that that one comes with the complete cab harness for the windows AND locks is a real plus.... unfortunately it wont all just plug in, trust me my passenger window has to be hot wired to be put up or down and its a huge hassle.. (im talking 70's vs. 80's)

if it was available in 77 then any 73-87 could be converted without any problem then right?

What does it take to actually install new power windows? I've got power windows in my truck, but the things hardly move, even after oiling them up nicely...

If the mechanics are well lubed, its possible that your motors are weak and need replacement with some heavy duty ones.
