Need help identifying subframe on my 1949 panel

Hello,

Im getting my new project ready for the track and always assumed
I had a late 70s nova subframe. When i went to install extended wheel studs
I measured the studs and they are .545 knurl and summit & jegs DO NOT
Carry any extended wheel studs in that size..only .550 for late model
Mustangs.

I'm hoping someone can identify my subframe from attached pics
I would like to know what disc set up i have on this subframe that is .545 knurl.
Trying to get truck ready for track and need help if anyone knows extended
Wheel studs in .545 please send link so i can purchase asap.

The photos don't tell a lot except most likely it is 73 or later.

Front steer and the caliper brackets being part of the spindles say that.

The heavier sway bar might be a clue as they usually came on Pontiac Trans Am or Big block Chevelle size cars. If you need to replace the sway bar bushings you will have to measure the sway bar and find the ones that fit.

The good news is that 73 to 77 Chevelle, Lemans, Cutlass, Regal and Camaro and 73/75 Firebird basic suspension parts and brake parts interchange without much of an issue. I've gone to the wrecking yard and snagged a spindle and upper control arm off a Cutlass or Lemans to put on a Camaro before and if you click on the blue part number on Rock Auto bushings, ball joints and other suspension pieces fit most GM vehicles of those years.

There are some differences in the actual subframe or stub though. 73/77 Monte carlo ran more caster from the factory than the Chevelles did. Some of the Camaros and Firebirds had a quicker ratio steering box.

A lot of guys leave the legs on the back of the Camaro Firebird subframes and run them along the frame rails rather than having them butted up to the ends of the frame rail like most Chevelle stubs are done.

Lug bolts should be 7/16 with 5 on 4-3/4. 88 and later Chevelle size and S-10 have metric lug bolts but that fat sway bar says that it is earlier.

You sure that is correct thats pretty large to fit this small front end.
Odd thing is it has a 7/16-20 stud with a .545 knurl which
Nobody including Dorman Moroso AARP Jegs Summit or anyone online makes an extended wheel started with that specific knurl and thread so I had to go to 1/2 inch by 20 with 545 knurl

The way it is mounted I am thinking 73/77 Chevelle. That will get you the parts you need outside of maybe having to match the center link and sway bar bushings.

They dont make extended wheel studs in a 7/16-20
With .545 knurl..i have to buy 1/2-20 extended stud and open face lug nuts

True but the original studs should have been 7/16 and not metric.

5 on 4-3/4 on GM being 7/16 pre metric and 5 on 5 being 1/2.

I dont know why you bring up metric..they are,again ,7/16
X20.

The issue was the knurl diameter
.545 only come in 1/2x20 in extended wheel studs anywhere
On the planet icalled and nobody makes..545 knurl
7/16x20 extended studs for drag racing..so i called American
Racing since those are the rims i run and they said since
It is lug centric i can use the .545 knurl 1/2x20 extended
Studs ....no metric anything involved at all.just trying to get truck
To pass tech for street outlaws event on october11th here in jupitor Florida

That clarifies the 77 or earlier.

If you search Rock Auto for chassis and brake parts for say a 74 Chevelle you can click on the blue part number and it shows you what vehicles the part is compatible with. Meaning that for a couple of items like sway bar bushings and maybe center steering links you are going to find the parts pretty easily.

Only thing i needed to pass tech at drag track
was extended wheel studs.
But no company anywhere makes a
.545 knurl 7/16x20 extended stud..only 1/2x20
in a .545 knurl
