56 Chevy truck stock fuel tank with EFI
Hey guys I tried searching but couldn’t find anything. I’m working on my 56 Chevy truck and I’m thinking about leaving my stock tank behind the seat. Can I still use my stock tank with my Chevy 350 with a edelbrock pro flo fuel injection system on my motor? Thank you here’s a pic of my efi system

Re: 56 Chevy truck stock fuel tank with EFI
ive seen several where people kept the in-cab tank and run fuel injection...they use in-tank pumps

O ok I’ll look into that. Is it not a good idea too keep the stock tank behind the seat! I’m on a budget so a new tank is out of the question

I don't like em in the cab..you could scrounge the junkyards and find a blazer tank fairly cheap I would think

Re: 56 Chevy truck stock fuel tank with EFI
I used my original tank and an external pump. The tricky part is the return line, I used the filler vent.

Re: 56 Chevy truck stock fuel tank with EFI
I put my pump in my tank when I installed EFI in '93. The modifications were not difficult.
I removed the fuel lines from the original sending unit and soldered the holes shut then reinstalled the plate. I made a new hole in the tank and built a new sending unit with in-tank pump and gauge sending unit. The new sending unit used 3/8" supply line and 5/16" return line. The first problem I ran into was failing to understand that fuel slosh would create driveability issues below 1/2 tank. Remove sender and add baffle. The next problem was vapor control due to fuel heating caused by warm fuel returning to tank. Had to install a power steering cooler on the return line and remove and disassemble fuel cap so the relief pressure was only about 2 psi. Then I had trouble getting the new sender to seal. Turns out 2 psi is a "bunch" of pressure when applied to a 7 square inch sending unit mounting plate. Curing that required making a new gasket out of nitrile sheet. Many years and miles later, I know the system could benefit from a connection to a charcoal canister and a purge valve to reduce fuel odor in the cab. I've figured out how to make it livable but I hope to make it better. I also realize that I was lucky to get a quiet fuel pump and that I probably would have to try several different pumps with the quality of today's aftermarket parts and/or install sound deadener. Re: 56 Chevy truck stock fuel tank with EFI
I installed EFI in my truck and kept the original tank.
I opted to use a fuel surge tank from Robbmc. The stock fuel pump supplies fuel to it and then there is a high pressure fuel pump in it to provide fuel to the EFI. I did have to run a vapor return line which was fairly easy. I have the older version of this: http://www.robbmcperformance.com/pro...owersurge.html This is a video (not mine). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6qmH01_fWeM |
