Re: Rust repair on the old 59 gmc

I'd swear that is the same truck I had out here in the yard for several years. The rust out area look about equal but I think it was a 57. It had all the chrome doo dahs but had been changed to a 283 and powerglide and got about 5 mpg. Mom's companion bought it from his son and I towed it up here when we closed his place out down below. Sold it for 350 a couple of years later.

48 Chev 3100 that will run a 292 Six.
71 GMC 2500 that is getting a Cad 500 transplant.
77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.

Re: Rust repair on the old 59 gmc

That looks pretty substantial. Are there are repro pieces to cover all the damage? Do you have access to another cab for parts? How are your fabrication skills?

If you are piecing in sections for the dash and cab then have a lot of repair work ahead of you imo. It may be worth it to locate another cab. I realize that it changes the originality of the truck, but when you think about it these trucks used to have parts replaced all the time and the original owners weren't worrying about originality.

I understand where you’re coming from
But yes I have all patch panels and the cab
Is being fixed. He’s cut out majority of the rust
And is going to put a new roof on

This was my grandfathers truck so I am going to do what I can
To fix what’s there
