Correct air cleaner info - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I’m looking for a correct factory air cleaner for my 64 camper. I have put in the only picture I really have of one which looks like a regular car cleaner but have also read that there may have been a different style to accommodate the vacuum booster for power brakes. If anyone has a picture of the correct style that’d be helpful so I can try to find one to replace the aftermarket set up it’s for now. Thanks

2 barrel or 4 barrel, should be 2 as no 4 barrels were available in 64 but the camper makes me wonder.

This is correct for 283's.

I think some straight sixes got a funky offset assembly if they had power brakes (??). I don't recall the specific years & never really researched the exact air cleaner assembly details.

Are you looking for a 6cyl or V8 air cleaner?

Sorry I thought I specified it was a 292...must have thought it in my head and not typed it. 292 6 cylinder with power brakes and ac. I wouldn’t think the compressor would make it be any different.

a 292 1964 without power brakes got the one in your picture. The power brake option automatically gets you the oil bath on a 292

Just a standard oil bath? I’ve seen some of the later (67-72 maybe) have an offset oil bath it looked like. Would it be the same as a 235 oil bath?

Factorystock do you have any other pictures of the engine compartment on that one? I’m looking to see how the factory pulled vacuum for the power brakes, somewhere down the line they added some tees and other lines to it and I’d like to put it back they way it was

Yes , it may clear. The oil bath was available on both 230 and 292 but the Data book specifies that the oil bath was included when power brakes are ordered. Now , it could have had the power brakes installed as an accessory by the dealer in which case the air cleaner may not have been changed , but if it was Factory ordered, it would get the oil bath. My 1966 Gold K20 292 was factory ordered with Power Brakes and came with the oil bath and my 65 K20 283 same. The picture above is a 1963 292 power brake unit that was factory ordered , that is a different power brake unit also as it does not angle to the inner fender like 64-66 and may have something to do with the smaller Dia oil bath VS the larger paper element air cleaner.

More photos. Note, the factory power brake booster used a aluminum wedge plate between brackets and firewall for air cleaner clearance.
