Looked at a 4x4 today

-
I looked at this truck today. The owner has had it quite a while and I remember seeing him drive it around a few years ago. He stopped by my place a couple of days ago and asked if I was interested in it. He said he doesn't have the time or money to fix it up. I haven't talked to him since I looked at it because of his work schedule but will in the next couple of days.. It looks pretty bad the way it sits but is actually a pretty solid truck. Obviously I couldn't see the bed floor too good but it looks a little rusty from below.

I would buy it and bring it back to life. The big plus on this one is all the air fresheners handing in the cab, should smell great!

Gotta love the K20's. Good luck on the negotiations. That one needs saving....

Thanks guys. Hopefully I will be able to talk to him this evening. I also found a couple of other trucks in my area. One is a Blue & White big block '72 Chevy Suburban and the other one is a Red '67 Short Stepside.

We shall see.....

Re: Looked at a 4x4 today

Keep us posted, looks like a decent project. Theres a few over by What Cheer I've been keeping my eye on too over the years but haven't been able to get my better half to agree on getting another just yet.

Will do.

I looked at another 4x4 a few miles North of What Cheer a couple of years ago but it was pretty rough. They are still around but are getting harder to find.

I have 7 trucks now so I guess one more won't hurt anything....

Re: Looked at a 4x4 today

There are three, two pickups and a Blazer, just south of What Cheer at a farm. Haven't moved any of them in the last 5 or 6 years. Theres also a nice K20 tucked in a hay shed that you can just see the front end from the road by Lynnville.

Re: Looked at a 4x4 today

Leon, looks to be rather solid with not knowing anything about the bed floor. When I bought my 71 4x4 it was rode hard and put up wet several times, LOL. Replaced a LOT of sheet metal and related rust repair. It wasn't cheap but just do not see many 4x4 trucks here about and I really wanted a 67-72 4x4 bad. Usually when I have mine out for a drive I'm nearly always asked if i ist for sale. Firm answer is "No, but thanks for asking". That K-20 has some nice options on the SIPD if still on the truck. Hope it works out for you and you can save it.

I stopped and talked to the guy South of What Cheer, on the East side of the road a couple of times. Nice guy but he didn't want to sell anything the last time I talked to him. The Red one East of Lynnville isn't in the shed any more. I don't know if he sold it or moved it to his house. There was also a White one North of New Sharon but I see it isn't there any more either. I stopped a couple of times to ask about it but never caught anyone home.

Doesn't look to be much rust in the cab at quick inspection. Cab supports are all good. When I go talk to him I will check it over closer and ask some questions. A/C is there and manual throttle is missing the knob.

I agree the 4x4 trucks are getting harder to find in decent shape. I don’t see them around here very often at all.

No deal on the truck. He has quite a bit invested in it and he wants to get all of his money back from it if he sells it. I think I talked him into getting it driveable again and fixing it up a little at a time. It needs the engine rebuilt or replaced (oil fouled spark plugs) and he quit driving it because he had a short in the wiring under the dash. He said he was going to get a Jegs crate engine for it and I told him if he got the engine I would give him a good A/C under dash wire loom and help him put it in. I also told him about the CLR trick to clean off the rust coming through the paint. He won't be able to do anything for a couple of weeks because they camp at the state fair every year and that's coning up. I hope he follows through.
