LS swap initial break in done, should I keep using break in oil?
I got my 5.3 swap completed over the weekend, freshly rebuilt 5.3, bored .030 over. Of course it has a roller cam, but I used break in oil anyways. I've driven it around 30 miles after the initial break in, and I want to change the oil for fresh stuff. I'll keep using regular dino oil (non-syn) for the first 5,000 miles. My question is simple - should i keep adding the Lucas break in oil to the engine or is it not needed at this point?

Re: LS swap initial break in done, should I keep using break in oil?
Did you use assembly lube in all the right spots? Did you follow an engine break-in process? If it were me and engine break-in was complete I'd just keep using conventional oil for the first thousand miles, and then switch it over the synthetic.
I probably wouldn't continue using break-in oil. If you did the break-in process already your rings should be seated. Outside of that, you don't really have many wear-items in there relative to a non-roller setup. |

Thank you for the replies. I did end up using break in oil again, but after this round I think I will just use conventional oil only until about 5,000 miles.
