fire wall pads

So i am stripping my cab for the paint shop, the old firewall pads just fell apart.
So do i need to put new ones back in ??
who is running with and with out them?
Pros and cons??

I’m also wondering about this. But to go a step further, could sound deadener (dynomat) replace the firewall pad? Thanks

I don't know how much difference they make. From what I can tell, they're mostly for thermal insulation and maybe a little bit of sound deadening. We didn't install them on my dad's 64 - we just put on generic dynamat and it's not too loud. I've already welded shut the holes for the attachment of that pad on my cab, it's just cleaner that way and I hate messing with that material when I'm under the dash working on something.

I used rattle trap, instead of dynomat. About the same, also added close celled foam, from Low Buck Rod....it's nice, and not bubble wrap....Mine went almost all the way up under the dash, then piece of vinyl from long ago, instead of the cardboard and jute....I think it was called tarkit....Then carpet.
