WTB: 12-Bolt carrier main caps

IF SOMEONE HAS A JUNK 12-BOLT CHEVY/GMC HOUSING:

I need a pair of the main caps (with bolts) out of a Chevy/GMC rear end housing. They will be for an experiment that I want to try on a 1st Gen Camaro 12-Bolt housing that all of my buddies are convinced is unsaveable.because it's missing a cap. Chevy used the same 3.062" OD bearing race on every 12-Bolt. I have machining tools (if needed) and the housing will be jigged during this experiment. I think I can make this work, my buddies don't. If it doesn't work, I'll buy an aftermarket cap set from Strange or Mark Williams.

If you've got a junk housing laying around let me know what you want for the pair.

I have a 5 gallon bucket of 12 bolt caps from rears that I have scrapped over the years.I have fixed many rears that I have purchased with out caps.It is easy for me because I have so many caps to choose from.To bad I'm in upstate NY,because I would let you go through them till you found a good fit. What do you want to pay for a set of caps and bolts?

Re: WTB: 12-Bolt carrier main caps

I don't have any idea what they're worth, but here's what I'm working right now:
Our local self-service yards pretty much scrapped everything older than 1990, so finding ANY 12-bolt rear axle is nearly impossible. I just checked one of the yard's (LKQ) inventory, and they just got a 1973 Chevy delivery van in 2 days ago, and from the picture, it appears like it's got a 1/2 ton rear axle in it (5 lug rear). I plan to go over there tomorrow and see if it's the right one. The only issue is, their parts list does not have a specific price for this part. I'll have to yank it out and hope the guy at the counter is cool.

If it isn't the right rear end (like maybe someone swapped it for a 10-bolt), I'm definitely interested in what you've got.

Thanks for the reply! I'll keep you posted.......

I wish I was close! I actually made an indicator sweeping tool to measure parting line to bore depth to be able to pick caps. Cap bolt clearance hole offset to housing tap can offset bore parting line even with correct measured diameter of race bore.

Re: WTB: 12-Bolt carrier main caps

If you haven't found anything yet there is a place here in Spokane called Perfect Pattern Differentials that specializes in the car 12-bolt.

He may have few a sets in his collection but also may be able to measure what he has to give you a set that is machined the closest to what you need.
