fuel gauge

after replacing my sending unit and double checking the grounds I think my gauge is bad. Is there any sure fire way to check it before I tear it out? I am getting a small amount of current at the sending unit pink wire and the ground is good. Any ideas?

Thumbs up

I have a 1975 Fuel gauge out of my truck. I'll measure coil resistance with a DVM and let you know. Removing fuel gauge is not too difficult of a job . Also, the soft PCB circuit, which is used as a backplane for your instrument cluster may have a poor connection due to corrosion (with age). However, because you are getting a small current (you did not say how much!) the circuit is probably is complete and just the movement on the gauge is FUBAR. B4N

OK

If you look at the pic the back of the fuel gauge has three terminals. In the picture they are marked 1 2 3 (simple)

On my gauge, which I know is good for 1975 C20 resistance measures:

1 & 2 41 Ohms
2 & 3 141 Ohms
3 & 1 100 Ohms

I do not have factory wiring manual to see what each terminal does... Good Luck

Here's how a friend of mine who's a mechanic checked mine. Hook up the ground, then hook up the power side to a live current, if the gauge pegs out, it's bad. That's what mine was doing anyways, and it didn't work.
