opinion on 2008 truck
2008 Chevrolet 1500 truck, 4WD and a 4.3V6. 123,000 miles. It is a one owner truck and is very clean on the inside and out. One small dent in the tailgate.
I'm looking at buying this truck but have a few questions: Reliability of the 4.3? It will spend the majority of its life on the highway to and from work. Weekend project work-lumber hauling, truck parts, etc. Hardly any towing. Never owned a 4.3. Always been a V-8 guy, except for the 2.7 in my Toyota. It looks like a good deal but need a little more information. Any ideas? Thoughts? Scott |

Re: opinion on 2008 truck
We have 2 of them at my work and they get terrible mileage compared to a v8 truck of the same year . It does not make sense to me .

Re: opinion on 2008 truck
I have an 06 Silverado with the 4.3v6. It has 250,000 miles on it and i drive it everyday.. Great motor, and I get 21 MPG's all day long. No bad for a 5000 lb truck.. I tow and pull all the time. biggest load close to 7k..

Re: opinion on 2008 truck
We have had several 4.3's and have had not one single problem with them. Most of ours get in the upper teens on mpg.

Re: opinion on 2008 truck
Thanks.
The wife's horoscope quote is killer. The truck is in excellent shape. 1 owner and 123K (2008). If it had a 5.3 I would have snatched it up first thing. Just not a lot of experience with the 4.3. Scott |

Re: opinion on 2008 truck
I think that year the horsepower is 195 and the torque is 260? Its a great engine very reliable can get slightly better mpg on the highway but its pretty comparable to a 5.3 v8 really in terms of mileage. It sounds like what you will use it for will be fine I would buy it if its priced right.

Re: opinion on 2008 truck
We just bought a 2010 with 12,000 miles with front sheet metal damage, grill bumper and hood, for $6,000. We have around $8,500 in it.

My brother has a Silverado 4.3 with 200k miles on it. This truck still runs great.
