Hinge bolt length
I am putting my doors back on my truck (finally!) and I am finding that I have two different size hinge bolts. I have a few shorter ones, and bunch of the longer ones. The only clearance issue I can see would be the upper door bolts could possibly hit the window mechanism. Then I have several with the pointy tip, as seen i the last picture. Is that for something else?
Thanks in advance for the help.

There should be plenty of room to use the longer bolts. They will be nowhere near the window mechanism. LockDoc

Re: Hinge bolt length
Pointed bolts are 67
Shorter bolts are suburban 3rd door Longer bolts fit the remainder yet all will fit without issues. |

Re: Hinge bolt length
That's weird, I've never had a 67 or a Suburban. But these trucks had a lot of parts from other trucks on them so maybe somebody just had a box of bolts

Re: Hinge bolt length
Thank you both for the feedback. One more question: what size are the bolts for the hood hinges?

Re: Hinge bolt length
The original door bolts off my 1971 are (GR 5) recessed hex bolts with spin washers. The bolt threads are 3/8-24 x 1.1/8". They're stamped double F.
You can buy black oxide replacement bolts off Ebay, and they're expensive. They claim they have the correct markings, but no, they just have three slashes for grade 5. They're shorter than original, maybe 1" long, but should work. The hood hinge bolts off the same truck are (GR 5) recessed hex, tapered end bolts with spin washers. The bolt threads are 3/8-16 x 7/8. They're stamped "ELH" or "E".

Re: Hinge bolt length
You can get a front end bolt kit that includes hood hinge bolts, all black oxide. I picked one up for $35 off Classic Parts.

Re: Hinge bolt length
Regarding the original question, some of the hinges are stepped, some are not. In other words, some are thicker than others. I'm assuming the thicker ones used slightly longer bolts. I don't know why or what years.

Re: Hinge bolt length
I stated the differences in bolt length, its not due to he difference in those hinges.

Re: Hinge bolt length
I have the "thick hinge". The OEM replacements I bought work alright, but there's not enough thread for shims. In other words, they're the wrong bolts. My original bolts (not-tapered (Randy)) are 1.1/8" under the spin washer. The replacements are 7/8ish, they might declare an inch.
