Yep they do. This is a 350? What kind of heads are on there? Reason I ask is this. Look here at the pics of my manifold.

Especially the side shots. On the manifold there is only 4 sets of holes and on your engine pic there is 5 sets. Hmmm

The water jackets on the dizzy end of the engine don't pass over the intake. The intake blocks them off.

Ok newbie alert (i warned ya

what are water jackets. So let me see if I follow you here. In the pic circled in white is the dizzy side and that is blocked by design by the intake. What about the ones circled in red? Can you take me through what a intake does?

The ones up front, circled in red, is where the coolant exits the block thru the thermostat and then into the radiator. There are water jackets at the rear, circled in white, so the heads will be the same on each side. Otherwise, there would be right side and left side heads.

An intake manifold simply distributes the air/fuel mixture to each cylinder. Also, that little port in the middle is an exhaust gas crossover to help the carb warm up faster.

Standard water flow in a stock gen 1 small block is radiator to water pump to block flowing to the back,up into the head and then out of the heads at the front into the intake and through the thermostat and back into the radiator,,,,the heater has to be tied in on the suction side of the pump and pressure side of the pump....IE: off of the intake and back into the water pump(water pump is the return and the intake side is the supply to the heater).The back is generaly plugged or is threaded for heater tap (rather than using one of the front fittings)

Those are where the air/fuel enters the heads. If you look down thru where the carb mounts, you should be able to see thru.

<--Newbie too! I've been working on my engine (first time) with my mechanic brother-in-law and he's no 'teacher'. I ask a lot of questions and he just goes 'don't worry about that'. I figure if I learn while we do this I won't need as much help the next time.
