5 Lug rear end swap confusion
I’m disc brakes swapping my 1969 1500. I was going to just get a 5 lug swap kit but I’ve decided to save a little money by reusing the rear ended out of the same parts truck that I got the spindles off of. The problem that the parts truck is a column manual truck with a stock rear end so it is probably 3.73 or 4.11 gears. My 1969 is also an original manual column but it has 3.07 gears special ordered. The 1969 has been th350 swapped so it goes great with the 3.07 rear end. If I swap on the parts truck rear end it will be horrible on the highway. Would it be easy to change my ring and pinion in the rear ends or swap the axels? I know the 71/72 rear ends are a little wider so I wasn’t sure if I could just swap the axels. Both rear ends are leafs so it will easily bolt in my truck with no modifications.

Re: 5 Lug rear end swap confusion
71-72 axles are wider.
They won’t swap.

Re: 5 Lug rear end swap confusion
If you know how to set up a ring and pinion,... then yes.
If you have to pay someone to do it,... then it might be cheaper to buy axles and new brake drums.
