Flowtech Afterburners - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

With my engine swap under way, I'll be needing a pair of mufflers VERY soon. Now, I'm a million miles from anywhere up here in Arooooostook County so I have to take what I can get.

What can I get? Well, either a Walker OEM replacement, Cherry Bomb Turbo ($25), Flowtech Afterburner ($32), Flowtech Raptor ($17), or Flowtech Terminator ($49).

I have a hard time bringing myself to pay $50 a pop for mufflers. I can live with $32 a shot. Anyone care to throw in $0.02 worth of opinion on my choices?

I've heard Afteburners before....they sound kinda like a 40 series 2-chamber Flowmaster, but the tone was a little rougher.....i did like them though...think they would be a good choice for $32

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's the way I'm going to go. I'll be running 2-1/2 duals back and dumping in front of the rear wheels. Nah, I don't mind 'em being noisy!

Thats what i would do

The truck i heard them on had a mild 350, 2.5" duals, and they ended infront of the rear axle...no turndowns or anything. Sounded good (but loud

)

I'm running Flowmaster 40's thru 2.5's with a "cross-over" pipe out of Flowtech headers off of a "Mild" 350. They dump down in front of the rear-end. And they are LOUD. I think that the truck bed sort-of works like a big speaker. And, you will be able to find every loose bolt that you have from the vibration that they create. Most of the time, the loudness doesn't bother me. And, you would not believe the comments that I get: "What in the He** are you running in that thing?". But sometimes the noise can be annoying. If you drive long distances at highway speeds, for instance. Or if you like to hear the radio.

About the longest trip I make is 20 minutes and I don't have big plans to fix the original AM radio anytime soon. Hey, I've gotta have something to listen to, right?
