GM Trucks at Billetproof hotrod Eruption drags.
Several years involved but a couple of hard running AD trucks and a few others and a few wild Chevy inline six engines.
r This event has taken place at Riverdale Raceway in Toutle Wa which is out past the "The World almost ended here" sign and is a few miles west of Mt St Helens and right on the Toutle river that carried the flood down to the ocean from the eruption in 1980 The track is 1/8 mile and about as basic as you can get with a berm on one side that most of us were sitting or standing on. There was also the ring ding of dirt bikes running around the dirt bike tracks that surround the drag strip area. It was a 179 mile drive over White pass at Early thirty in the morning. As this is a Billetproof event you won't see any 20's or other new fad stuff just old school hotrods and a few that qualify more as rat rods but ran hard and close inspection said looks were deceiving. No suspect chassis work on these rigs. The TF Cameo looking truck runs really hard and blew the doors off several would be gassers. A young guy who stood with me while I took photos for quite a bit said it is a regular at the track. The black AD with pink trim belongs to a gal who drives the wheels off it and made a lot of passes. That gal is one smooth driver and the truck is real consistent. The little green AD was hiding out behind the bleachers complete with rally wheels Normally I don't do rat rods but this one was a body and bed sitting on a later car chassis and was a strong runner.

A couple of late 30's trucks that ran hard.
Yes that is a 6-71 on a 292 six. More on that truck later. The Ramp truck was really cool The guy in the dark shirt and ball cap says "man you gotta get some shots of this ramp truck"

One more ramp truck shot and then who doesn't like a nifty AD burb.
This one was sitting out next to the more than dusty road through the track without a care in the world. I'm not a fan of Haugen headlight rings but the rest of the truck was superb. It had one of the best examples of a Vee'd windshield I have seen and it just looked right all around. I think I got spotted as "that dude who posts photos on the net" this time though.

The louvers in the side of the hood were a nice trick but for the life of me I can't figure out how they carried it off and kept the hood fitting that good.

A bit of 292 with dual 4's in a dragster porn. This was a nicely done rig that had a radiator, electric fan and alternator so it could make a lot of rounds of bracket racing without an issue.
Crew cab ramp truck looked pretty handy and was something for the square body brigade. Way out by the gate was this mixed bag of nifty Chevy trucks sitting together.

Another shot of the 4 light TF then a nice short wide hooked to a trailer
Then the aroma from those smokers drug me over to the barbecue tent for a shredded pork sandwich and some suspect potato salad. The sandwich was great though. Back to the finish line to catch the early 60's truck make another hard run.

The white cameo pulled hard all day and did a bit of ego bruising in the process.
That blown 292 also pulled hard and made a mean sound like nothing I have ever heard before.

More of the Blown 292 plus a couple of a smaller six with 2 4 barrels in a Nova that ran pretty good and last but not least a turbo charged smaller six with a 292 decal on it that I didn't see run but the Turbo may have disqualified him for the event.
That's it, it was one of the more fun events I have been to in a long time and it really made me wish I had something to race with.

I think the cutoff was around 1966 Year model as far as being able to race and as the name suggests no billet parts or wheels allowed for the sake of having billet parts. Hand machined aluminum on some special brackets passed muster though. Going up there would about like going to a track at Glenwood if there was one. Way out past the end of the known world sign in a really nifty setting. If it gets any more popular both racer or spectator wise they will need to make a few improvements including a decent return road so the cars can have a way to return besides driving back up the strip. That was one of the best parts for me taking photos though as all the rigs you see going left to right on the strip were returning to the starting line/pits and that allowed me to get great photos with no clutter in the background.
