Need help with brake line routing (leaf spring truck)
So in between sanding sessions I decided to start installing brake lines. I ordered a complete front to rear kit from GMCPauls (Inline Tube) and according to GMCPauls, the kit I ordered is for my truck, a 1968 1/2 ton SWB leaf spring. The front lines and rear lines all fit nice, but the front to rear line has me puzzled. Where it connects to the rear rubber hose, the bend was too high and would have hit the underside of the bed so I had to modify that, no big deal. But what I don't understand is that the line almost looks like it's too short. With the rear fitting threaded into the flexible hose, the front end, where it bends towards the driver side to crossover, ends up underneath the transmission instead of at the front crossmember with the front lines. Has anyone else had this issue?

Re: Need help with brake line routing (leaf spring truck)
I'm fairly certain mine continues up the passenger side for quite a while. Mine is a 71 4x4 but I'll look this afternoon and let you know.

Just put in a call to inline tube. They are always willing to take over any problem that I have.

Is it possible that it was collapsed some for shipping purposes? Like if you forced it to run along the frame more and then cross-over on the cross-member, would it be long enough?

Re: Need help with brake line routing (leaf spring truck)
I thought it was odd that it ran under the transmission too. It had two tags that indicated to straighten out a shipping bend and I did that. There are no bends between where it threads into the flexible hose and the union at the front. There were no tags on the crossover line indicating to straighten anything either. I'm pretty sure if I modified the crossover line that it would be too short as there isn't enough length between the union and the length of the bend that matches the crossmember. I've got an email into GMCPauls. I don't know what part # to reference for help from Inline Tube since the part #'s on GMCPauls' website don't match up to Inline Tube's.
Thanks for the advice everyone, this confirms my suspicion that it's not right. I will wait to hear back from GMCPauls and go from there.

I think you need to straighten to follow the frame channel, here is what mine looks like

I had this problem in 1998 with inline tube. 2wd Longbed with rear leaf. I ended up sending them my old tube and they duplicated it.

They should be nested in behind the cross member, nothing exposed where it could snag. Not great photos but somebody will hopefully post a better set.

Re: Need help with brake line routing (leaf spring truck)
If you zoom in you can see on notsolo 2nd picture the union should be about where the tire sits.
Your rear brake line is installed to far rearward. install the line your working on starting at the master area and work your way across fitting it next to the rh front brake line. On the rh side the line your installing goes under the frame rail and is bent over to go inside the frame rail where it connects with a union to the rear brake line. |

Re: Need help with brake line routing (leaf spring truck)
randy500, that makes sense. I must have the wrong front to rear line. I will install the crossover line so that it's snapped into the original clips in the crossmember and go from there.

Re: Need help with brake line routing (leaf spring truck)
Thanks notsolo. I did get an email back from GMCPauls with a list of individual lines that should have been in the box so I will compare that list to what I have. The bend in the crossover line makes more sense now, I just have to figure out why my front to rear line is shifted rearward.
