Re: Anyone Make Their Own Steel Bed Floor
this would be a tough job to tackle unless you have avalibilty to some shemeatle fabricating equipment , unless you are going to use 14 ga sheet metal or thicker you would need to apply a profile in the sheet to create strength , you would at least need a bead roller capable of handling larger size sheets , in the case you wanted to go to heavy gauge sheet that would not require a profile to add strength but, you would need some good tools capable of cutting heavy gauge sheets and then you end up with a flat sheet bed that in my opinion would just give the look of cheeping out .

Re: Anyone Make Their Own Steel Bed Floor
Ahhh, I finally found it. In the racing section, I remember a build a member built a short wide bed. Made a bed out of aluminum sheet, made the fender wells, also.
It may not be what you are looking for, may give you an idea? THe build is on page 19 in the Racing section. Title of build is "1967 C-10 LS Powered Build". Not sure if owner is still active here. Might ask him a question if needed. He made his floor and wheel wells out of aluminum., His intention was obviously not to use the bed for general pickup use..Looked like using steel and doing things a little different, a bed floor could be made... |
