disc breaks
anyone know what it take to change to disc for my 70gmc 3/4 ton and how hard it is?

I did my 69 3/4 and it was pretty easy going. I got the whole front spindle/brake assembly off a 73 3/4 and it was pretty easy. You need the 73 ball joints and what not but other than that it's a pretty easy job. One thing though, you'll lose about 2" or so in ride height for the front. I'm probably forgetting some things but i'm sure someone will bring other stuff up...

I have a '67 1/2 ton and used a front end off of a '72 3/4 ton. I had a wrecking yard cut the frame off at the firewall so that I had everything. I just unbolted the 6 crossmember bolts and put it up under my truck. Not bad for 6 bolts. I have bever done anything like that before it it went real easy for me.
You do have to disconnect the brake lines, steering and motor mounts before removing the x-member. I just left all the suspension, etc right on the x-member. It makes it heavy but saves a lot of disassembly, assembly time. E-mail of you have any further questions...

I am greatly interested in this also.
So I can go to the local wrecking yard, and pull the spindles, discs, and calipers off of a '73-'87 3/4 ton? I understand that I will need the newer style ball joints as well. But can I retain my control arms, or do I need the newer ones of those as well? What about a power system? Can I use the booster/cylinder from a newer model as well? Will it mount up? If not, what can I make fit? Will a new style disc system work with the manual system I now have for the time being? Thanks!
