What is this for?

Replacing an old holley carb with an edelbrock 1406 and this is in the way to where its just enough for me not getting the edelbrock carb lined up correctly. Not sure what I need to do to get the carb lined up correctly with the bolt holes.

Re: What is this for?

Never seen a dual stage EGR valve on a small block.
BTW that's an EGR valve.
Smog inspections where you are? Remove and plug, or get a manifold without the EGR ports

Re: What is this for?

It’s an egr.
Exhaust gas recycle.
You can remove it and cover the hole with a flat plate and gasket.

You might need to make a plate yourself.

Yes, you will have to fab your own plate, but they are relatively easy.

Re: What is this for?

I believe the 1406 is a square-bore carb. You're going to want to replace that manifold anyway.

Re: What is this for?

YOU'LL NEED AN ADAPTER TO GO FROM SPREADBORE TO SQUARE FOR THE CARB AND YOU CAN BUY A BLOCKOFF PLATE FOR THE EGR. https://www.holley.com/products/fuel...ers/parts/1932 AND...https://www.holley.com/products/fuel...ies/parts/7631

Re: What is this for?

I don't think anybody makes a block off plate for that clamp type. Manifold would be the best solution all around. On a budget? Remove the valve and see what it will take to plug both the vacuum hole and the exhaust blow hole. If I remember correctly, those manifolds were prone to cracking through the cross over anyways

Perhaps this relocation plate from Edelbrock will work for you...

Re: What is this for?

An Edelbrock 2701 aluminum intake manifold for square bore carbs is only $148.95 from Summit, Jegs, or Amazon.

Re: What is this for?

Or keep the intake and buy a Quadrajet for $199.

That would actually be my choice. It's a much better carb, and you'll save a whole bunch of headaches. National Carburetors has a pretty good price on completely remanufactured Quadrajets.

Re: What is this for?

Yes, I bought their part number ND4478 with the electric choke. In my message above I should have said $279 because there is a $50 core charge and shipping, and not having a Quadrajet before probably means no core charge returned. Still very good carb and reasonable price.
