I don't think this is original?
Trying to install my radiator and the lower hose looks it's going to hit this.... it looks like a clean bend, is this original? I can't see what it is for. Can I just use a BFH and bend it back?

It's original. I assume it was for better access to the fuel pump and lines. Maybe someone knows for sure.

I used a short length of I think 1/4 or 3/8 inch gas line. Slit it like a hotdog bun and slipped it over this are to prevent chaffing on my lower hose. Have done it this way for years with no issues.

Also try tightening hose at the water pump. Then after you get the hose onto the radiator try rotating the hose counterclockwise after snugging up the clamp. This should give you a little elevation from the frame rail. Then completely tighten the clamp to maintain the clearance you have gotten.

Factory bend of the frame for clearance.

You have a long water pump on that engine...throw that stuff away and get the right short water pump and accessories.

Sometimes they make them a bit longer on one end or the other or even both. Get the correct parts, if needed for the other areas and most work well with a bit of trimming.

Re: I don't think this is original?
I've never had that bend in the frame be an issue on any of my trucks. Try any of the things suggested above. There is a way to do this properly without modification. Slipping the split hose over the frame is a great just in case safeguard.

Re: I don't think this is original?
Is the hose in backwards? I thought the quick bend went on the radiator side?
I had to trim a few inches off my hose on the water pump side. Then I used that cut off (and a zip tie) to protect that part of the hose from the frame as protection.

I have done the same thing on mine.
