Has anyone restored an olive console or '72 door panels? I have a console I need to paint...I'm wondering what paint to use. Bonus points for posting pics of the finished work!

The parts place seems to have re-numbered their paint codes to coincide with PUI color numbers or maybe it was always that way and i didn't notice until recently....anyway, pui code 24 is dark green in these trucks, 71-2 anyway, here is the paint to match, it seems to be metallic and the console was not originally metallic....

Thanks Randy. I was doing a little more searching on eBay after seeing your link. Your link is for p/n PT0024Z, which is the metallic. PT0025Z appears to be dark green (non metallic). I think I'm going to order some. Thanks for the help!

Last year I got a can of custom-mixed spray paint from a Paint Mart store to use on the door panels of my '72. Seems to be a fairly close match..... also seems to be a bit fragile.
I'll look tomorrow to see if there's any codes or anything on the can.

Got a bunch of numbers on the can. Means nothing to me, but....

The label they made says SEM Color Coat.
Numbers are 01-10 56-28 51-110 54-115 59-132 Dark Green.
The color wasn't quite right so they added 10.0 of 01 Black.

Truck's in the body shop and the panels are in storage here at home. I'll try to get a pic later today.

Not sure why, but the panel looks better in person than in this pic. Maybe the sun washed it out a bit? Looks like I should give it another coat. The color towards the front is a pretty accurate representation.

Stocker, that turned out nice. I'm not too sure about those paint numbers either...I'm sure they mean something to someone. I'm still thinking I will try Randy's suggestion since it is pre-made paint.

I move at a snail's pace--so you might beat me to it!...in which case you will have to post pics.

I stripped my console a few years ago, and then it has been in a box ever since. I will post pics though when I finally get it done.

About the paint being fragile....vinyl paint is not durable at all, it wears off real easy. Looks great when applied properly just not durable.

The consoles are made of molded fiberglass, the mold is 2 sided just like a corvette, they should be painted with automotive paint with gloss reducer, the problem with doing that is getting the proper gloss and keeping the film build down so the paint doesn't fill the grain.
