Odd Signal Indicator Behavior

This is a new one on me. while driving home last night, my truck's right turn signal indicator flashed randomly on the dash. It was intermittent, sometimes remaining on a few seconds, other times flashing rapidly or slowly. There were long periods when it was not lit at all.

So far as I could tell from the driver's seat, there was no corresponding odd behavior of the actual signal lights, front or tail.

Any ideas where I might begin to look?

Check the 4 ways and see if they work correctly. If so, you may just need to replace the turn signal flasher.

Or add a ground wire, anyplace it doesn't matter.

Honestly its probably the turn signal switch, its hanging up partially disengaged, take the turn signal cam out, clean the contacts and lube with white lithium grease. The switch will work much smoother and with less effort too.

Re: Odd Signal Indicator Behavior

Does it matter that this behavior only happens with the headlights on? I have not seen it driving in the daylight (and I made a point of closely watching today).

i have the exact same issue. flickering right turn signal with headlights on and its only after driving it for about 10 minutes.
new AAW wire harness. new bulbs. new dakota digital gauge cluster.
took apart the turn signal switch in the column and cleaned it... no help.
i still think its a ground to one of the light housing but havent really troubleshot yet.

Re: Odd Signal Indicator Behavior

Dull turn signal glow is from a front light housing that is not grounded, the ungrounded housing is on the same side as the dull glowing/blinking turn signal indicator.

Check the bulb too, could be a bad filament making contact with the headlight/front lamp brown wire.

Re: Odd Signal Indicator Behavior

A friend of mine in the old tractor field, has a mantra: "Check the grounds, check the grounds, check the grounds." Looks like that will be where I start.

Thanks, guys!
