flip the air cleaner cover?

ive seen many trucks with this "mod" and was wondering what it really other than add noise. it would seem that you would lose hp due to heated air from the engine. also would this mess up the engine at all? ive done it once and it sound half way between a rice rocket and a v-8. can anyone give me some feedback

I did that for years, never saw ANY difference, not even noise (that's the first time I've heard of that too).

I run a 14x4" open element cleaner and my truck starts right up in the mornings when its below freezing out, long as your choke is working it shouldn't matter. Might make a difference after its running in how quick it warms up though. Flipping the air lid supposedly can help you gain a couple HP, but i'm not sure it really works, not enough to notice a real difference on the street anyway, you get cool air through the snorkle so it seems you have to weigh hot air and more flow or cool air and less flow hehe

I did that to my old 93 when I was in high school, before I knew better. If you want more air, just go with the old edelbrock chromie. I'm gonna send you a pm about the s4.

Just save it and when it comes time for inspection, just swap it back.
