Do you have polyurethane or rubber cab and bed mounts? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I am getting ready to buy new cab and bed mounts for my 1968 Chevy C10 abd was trying to figure out if polyurethane or rubber mounts would be best?

Obviously polyurethane would be more solid but would they squeak or anything like that? I am wondering if new style rubber mounts are good quality and would just end up squishing and collapsing in very short time and would not be as good as the factory rubber mounts were.

What did you guys use?

I've found on here lots like Rubber on body mounts and Poly on suspension parts due to the vibrations transmitted more harshly via the Poly...

I went with poly mounts on my c20.
I had 3 year old rubber mounts which had already cracked and sagged. I think due in part to the c20s much larger rear cab mounts.
The body lines up nicer now but I do get more squeaking and they’re definitely a bit harsher in ride quality.
I don’t mind the harsher ride and the squeaking, though annoying, does seem to slowly be getting better.

Polyurethane with no regrets. I installed them over 20 years ago, finished the restore about 2 years ago. Couldn't tell you about the ride difference, but it rides just fine for me. No squeaking either.

BTW, no cracks or deterioration.

I have what belongs, rubber. Poly bushings came out for suspension and drivetrain mounts as a performance upgrade by giving a more firm positive feel by limiting movement in more extreme use. You had people pulling body mounts to install solid blocks for a body lift (which was a dumb idea) so the poly bushing people figured people would buy body mounts if they made them. The only problem with that is another name for body mounts is body cushion. You want cushion and rubber is what gives you that. People look at their worn out or missing rubber body mounts and think they need something better. So they get poly mounts. Try NEW rubber mounts. I guarantee you will find they are the perfect thing. Certainly better than the 50 year old originals. The only thing wrong with your original rubber body mounts is they are old

I use rubber too. I have had a set of polys sitting on the shelf for years that I got with a bunch of parts. Never used them. My trucks ride hard enough with the rubber bushings let alone solid plastic.

How many of you had to replace your rubber cab mounts or bed mounts after only a couple of years of use?

I dont want to have to go back and do it again after 3 years so I am hoping that todays rubber mounts are of good quality.

What brand? We'd be hearing about new rubber mounts being pure crap if all brands were that bad. If you know the brand, let us know so we can avoid that mistake. I have never known of new rubber mounts being so bad

I installed new rubber body mounts and bed cushions 8 years ago, and they are still in fantastic shape.

I have used polyurethane cab and radiator support mounts. BUT, I did this because I converted my metal bed to wood in a DIY fashion which raised my bed by 3/4". This meant my cab and rad support needed to go up too (basically a body lift). I made my mounts out of raw poly round stock. The mounts are 3/4" taller than stock which should get some of the cushion back, but not let them sway. In my case, it think it was the right way to go, but in stock situations...I'd go back to rubber unless I was racing.

I got the cab and core support mount/bushings from Frank's Pick'm Ups in Olympia Wa. and there was no branding on the bags they came in. But they had the correct fasteners, washers and spacers and fit great. The rubber pads/bed mounts I got from Wes at Classic heartbeat, and I think I bought stainless steel bed fasteners from LMC.

Again, they all fit perfectly and I've had no problems whatsoever.
