Original 1970..1 owner!! (New Project)

I’ve been after this truck for 15+ years, the family finally decided to let it go so I went and drug it up on a trailer and smiled the whole way home. It had set untouched for probably 20 years, I changed oil, plugs/wires and put a rebuilt carb on and poured some gas down it and she fired right up! I got the brakes bled on it today and drove it around the block and it purrs like a kitten. It needs rockers and cab corners but as far as I can tell the body/paint are completely original. The engine isn’t factory for the truck but hey it runs! Here are some pictures of the way it sat for the past 20 years.

The car wash is magic. Huge improvement for a few bucks. There really is a cool old truck under there.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: Original 1970..1 owner!! (New Project)

Thanks fellas, I’m planning on just going through the drivetrain, making sure all is sound and just drive it! Eventually I’ll get rockers on it but other than that I don’t want to change a thing. It’s so hard to find a real “survivor” anymore. I think it looks great like it is.

If that is an original one owner that has never had any body parts replaced you need to make detailed photo album of all of the areas that people question concerning correct after market parts.

Re: Original 1970..1 owner!! (New Project)

Love stories like this...'Not for sale" - I would get it, if they kept it inside and tried to preserve it....but no....I once chased a Model A that wasn't for sale, & it sat next to an empty garage, until it rusted itself down to the frame......Congrats on saving this before mother nature took its toll, & also by preserving its originality......You deserve the long awaited find......

Re: Original 1970..1 owner!! (New Project)

Congrats on sticking with this effort. Many times we give up and seek out other opportunities.

About 10 miles there is a 50th C20 BB sitting outside rusting away. I have tried at times to ask if it was for sale ... same answer - "someday I'm going to fix it up". That was said about 20 yrs ago and its still sitting.

Re: Original 1970..1 owner!! (New Project)

Yessir, I guess sometimes the sentimental attachment is just too much for folks to let go, which in a way I get it. Probably 10 people from the family that owned this truck showed up while I was loading it, they were all hugging and taking pics of the truck so you could tell it was a big deal to them. That’s a shame about the anniversary truck! I guess the ole “I’m gonna fix it” is just a nice way if them telling us to get bent..lol.

Re: Original 1970..1 owner!! (New Project)

Thanks all, I’m really enjoying it. Been trying to iron out the little bugs and her attitude so I can drive it more often, it’s funny seems like all old trucks and cars have their own little personality. This is the first 3OTT it’s actually pretty dang fun to drive! Lol
